A Crew Of Baltimore Hip-Hop's Biggest Outcasts Find Their Niche As Mania Music Group

"We're like a gang of misfits, people that nobody wanted," says Dwayne "Headphones" Lawson, 28, describing the group of musicians whom he brought together to form Mania Music Group. "When I first met these guys, I called my wife and I was like, ..Wow, these guys are truly effin' talented.' I couldn't believe how talented they were. And everybody [now in Mania's] backstory was like, ..I tried with [another label], and this happened.'

And my story was the same--I was like, ..Maybe we were supposed to get together.'"

Last year, Lawson, an experienced hip-hop producer, sought the services of Brandon "BeaLack" Lackey, 26, an engineer who runs Towson's Verede Grace Studio, to mix and master some of his beats. Instead of a simple business transaction, though, they became production partners, founding a record label, and quickly assembled a roster of three rappers whom one or both of them knew: Emmanuel "Midas" Williams, Kane Mayfield, and Ron G. And even though each MC was a different age, and had varying levels of experience, the three Baltimore natives quickly realized how compatible they were with each other and with the Headphones/BeaLack production sound.
"From all of us starting to hang out, it was just an amalgamation of ideas, and we would be in the studio literally all weekend, just playing with stuff," Lackey says of the group's early jam sessions, in which producers would play the live instrumentation that laid the groundwork for many of their first collaborations.
Now, those kinds of sessions happen at Verede Grace on a weekly basis. On a recent Wednesday night, the five Mania Music Group members are in the studio, along with their friend Obie, who runs the label's web site and is manning the video camera that's used to produce videos for its YouTube page. On one wall is a dry-erase board with a list of song titles under each MC's name. Another is covered with taped pieces of paper that feature typed phrases, some of them motivational messages they've written for one another, others simply bizarre inside jokes.
A couple years ago, Williams was a chubby 21-year-old West Baltimore kid who had made his name on the local battle-rap circuit, winning the Style Warz competition and placing second at the One Mic tournament. But even when excelling in that environment, he was something of an anomaly, a battle rapper who'd smile and dance as he performed while his competitors scowled their way through rhymes. During a stint with a local label, Team Green, Midas released a solo project, 2006's Pay-Per-View, but he says he ultimately bristled at the more traditional sound and image the label had in mind for him. "They wanted to go in one direction, and artistically I wanted to go in another direction," he says. "So it was best for both of us to kinda end that whole situation and go our separate ways."
After splitting off from Team Green, Williams went through a period of self-discovery. He shed 110 pounds, started running with a hipper Charles Village crowd and dressing sharper, while expanding his musical interests beyond hip-hop, to eclectic artists such as Santogold and Janelle Monae. After linking up with Mania Music, he modified his performing handle to Dappa!!!Dan Midas, and he dressed the part, rocking a bow tie while rapping and singing his new more playful and unique material. "It's an extension of who I am," he says in a matter of fact tone about his change.
Mayfield went through his own transformations with Mania, although they were more strictly musical. "If you listen to some of Kane's music prior to us, he was real militant," Lawson says. The 26-year-old Kane's previous work is largely politically driven, and intensely serious, but in person, Mayfield is a natural-born comedian, riffing in silly voices and making off-color jokes at every opportunity.
When Lawson met Mayfield before hearing his music, he was shocked by the contrast. "I'm like, ..That's the person you need to capture on an album,'" Lawson says. "It wasn't an easy job, but we chiseled him down and tried to make him understand that you can make songs that use your personality."
At 20, Ron G. is the label's youngest artist, as well as its least dominant personality in conversation. Still, he'll sometimes end an earnest statement with an off the cuff non sequitur, demonstrating that he shares his collaborators' sense of humor. And though his music is less flashy or eclectic than Kane's or Midas', his lyrics display fierce intelligence and social consciousness. When an unreleased new song is played in the studio, it's hard not to identify the narrative: "Has anybody heard the news lately?/ Word is they killed another baby/ 14 years old, mom go crazy/ [police] capped 'cause he reached for a gun/ investigators come and they don't find one/ and that's why I fuck with police/ simply because they fuckin' with me," the last line repeated with his voice raising in anger.
In April, the label held a listening party for its first release, Mania Music Group Sampler, and it recently made the entire album available as a free download on its web site. The disc features two solo tracks from each MC, two posse cuts, and a hysterically funny intro track in which Mayfield and Lackey stitch together dozens of silly voices into an absurd two-minute comedy piece. "One day me and [Lackey] came in here, locked the doors, turned the lights down, and just went crazy for like four hours," Mayfield says. He pauses, thinks about how that sentence came out, and adds, "Not . . . in that way"--and the room fills with laughter.
The sampler functions as a showcase for range of Mania's MCs and producers. Midas' "Biggest Fan" is a big, goofy funk-rock jam, and Kane's dance track "Party in Ya Face" is one of his first songs to hint at the rapper's sense of humor. Even the relatively staid Ron G. switches up his style on "Blvd." and sings a melancholy chorus over Lackey's acoustic guitar strumming. But the album also begins and ends with "Heavy Metal Mania" and "Blown Out," two no-nonsense posse cuts with hard, pounding beats and punch lines galore, as if to prove that these guys haven't gone completely out of their minds.
The sampler, though, is just a taste of the avalanche of material the label is poised to release in October, for a campaign they're calling Month of Mania. Each week, there'll be another free download on the label's site, including a solo EP from each rapper--appetizers for upcoming full-lengths--and mixtapes themed around Baltimore club music and old-school hip-hop. "I just wanted to put out a nice amount of music before we put out these albums," Lawson says. "I think a lot of mistakes people make is to put out an album, and nobody knows who you can sell it to. I don't think that we'll drop the record and it'll fly off the shelf automatically; I really think that Mania Music will be what I like to call a slow burn. As you go on, people will start to pick up on it, because I don't wanna be a fad or a trend."
As Lackey sees it, Mania Music Group's talent and versatility is its greatest strength, but it's also something they're trying to control and calibrate carefully. "The problem that each and every one of us has is, we got a transporter, we can go everywhere in the world you'd wanna go to," he says. "What's the problem? Well, where do we go? We can take it anywhere we want to. So it's like, you know what? We're gonna take it here. We're gonna take it there, we're gonna do it right, we're gonna do it our way.">..table>

REP YOUR SET........(and by rep i mean "stop living in, and by set i mean "TV")

(and by "REP" I mean stop living in, and by "SET" I mean your TV)

This blog started out as a response to a topic on Judah's blog on gangs in the DMV.
Check out the ORIGINAL blog, and leave comments.
Personally, I was not going to touch topics like this, because they draw out the stupid’s……..but I caved in, and here is my response to the endless sea of people telling me Lil Wayne, The Game, Jim Jones, and ( I suppose) Snoop , are the reasons we slangin' and bangin'.
Well I wouldn’t buy that with your money, so load em up because here I come

Although many group activities fall under the definition of "gang" there is a difference between "gang" and "street gang".

THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE, and although its cliché' it's true. But that is no excuse for letting them do whatever they want. Our president is a big ass in point. It is really easy to sit back and say "these gangs are out of control", but really do nothing to stop it. Personally I do not care about gangs, or gang violence, because I am not in Jail. Joining a gang because you went to prison and realized you were not quite the super villain who you presumed yourself while you lurked the street.......... well you're not the brightest bulb in the box, but I can follow the thought pattern. How do you join a gang when you're free to come and go as you please? How do you join a gang and your over the age of 14 (fuck I look like @ 26 wanting to be a blood)?

YOU ARE some shape form or fashion. If it wasn't a gang, it would have been drugs, or a drinking game, or a belly ring, or a homosexual encounter that did you in. Something would have pressured you left or right because you're missing a foundation. Now some folk's foundation is in gangs........ And again, I understand that. It is kind of hard to say "fuck you every male family member for 3 generations" and not clique up........its apart of who you are. But aint a whole lot of generational bloods and crips in MD or NY, so that makes you deficient by default. If any of what I am saying is pissing you off........... Then good, fuck you, your corny. Then there is the "everything is a gang" logic that these miscreants like to use as their coat of arms. I got news for you junior; although many group activities fall under the definition of "gang" there is a difference between "gang" and "street gang". The Black Panthers were NOT a gang, they were a political party.

Political parties are not street gangs,  .......douche!

If you are truly fighting the power to embetter our neighborhoods then feed kids school lunches with money NOT made from crime. Do positive work in a community without selling drugs in it. In fact lets widen out the parameters shall we....... do some good without hurting black people at all (you can pull that off right..?). Fighting with another "set" over some shit that was not even started in your community, state, region, or fucking time zone is super soft and I am surprised you're not sucking 4 dicks right now. Now before you get your bandanna in a bunch, understand why I am saying this. If you are sooooooo bored, and soooooo gangsta that you just HAVE to kill for a cause........... Go shoot the CEO of a news station that depicts black people in a negative light. Go pop the top of the President of a pharmaceuticals company who overcharges for brand name perscriptions. Beat down a senator, or at least try to punch him in the face. There are people who go out of their way to fuck you over every day, and surprisingly enough they don't wear hankycheifs to signify their alliance. They rock American flag lapel pins and speak of spangled banners. So go handle that, and when your finished your vegetables and you still want to be a blood or a crip because that's your favorite color and you still know the handshake I will say feel free brother man.

You could not poison the community because we were not just some people that bought similar real estate, we were FAMILY

Bullshit music inspired kids to bla bla bla.......right? Let's just accept that we were all tricked into the same shit these kids were. How can my crack head older brother tell me not to smoke crack and get on his high horse (no pun intended)? How can "we" who were fooled by NWA (yeah they were frauds), Ice T (who now plays a cop), and a much broker Jay-Z, piss fire and brimstone on the youth for doing the same thing. The game has not changed one bit. We are now just older and smarter and aware that these rap nigga's is selling lies, and half truths? Calling ourselves being civic minded by preaching to them ala the old man from New Jack City ("your soul is required in hell", lol he was the man). All the while, WE STILL DOING THE SAME SHIT

Look at Rick Ross, would you presume to tell me that no one questioned this guy from Jump Street?
FUCK NAAAW, you were all too busy hustling, hustling, Hus Hus Hustling. Kids are dying all over the world for much more opposable shit than "hip hop lyrics" and some musician's braggadocio. I can not be the only one with the stones to admit he has a serious lack of faith in the common sense of his neighbor. All the D.A.R.E programs, lectures, and family issues we all went through and some of us still smoke crack. All the shootouts, and prison time, and nigga's dying in front of you at the ball court and it's still cool to sell drugs? Or at least rap about it. WE ARE IN NO POSITION TO DISPENSE CORRECTION.

Now, on to a solution.

The reason this bullshit is allowed to continue is because you are all scary and gay. Now that sounds less like a solution, and more like me being a jerk right....? Well allow me to elaborate. Back in the day, and I mean way back (before tivo, and mc's spitting the hot crack piff) people were actually held responsible for their actions. In this amazing land of wonder, people would (your not going to believe this) TAKE PRIDE in the place that they lived. Now this may sound strange, but "black neighborhood" was not always synonymous to "bad neighborhood"..., at least not to non white people. If you were outside on the corner, actively gooning all about, and someone's grandmother saw you from her window, she would called her son (the equivalent to your uncle) who came outside with a jack in his mouth, beer and belt in his right hand (pointing at you with his left yelling "HEY NOW THERE BWOY), and whooped your raggedy ass. This was a glorious time. Now some of you are thinking "ain't no nigga gonna ooh ooh aah aah (those are chimp noises because that's what it sounds like to me)" but your wrong. See with the growing number of you wearing man pocket books, extra medium t-shirts, and booty jeans you may forget the concept of "old man strength". That old mechanic shop Jim Brown looking motherfather will not only catch wreck on you, but he will talk to you while he does it. And if you dare comeback the next day, it will only be to apologize to his mother and fix the rose bush her son threw you into while he had that "talk" with you. These are the times that bread leaders, not puppets. This was the era of Afrocentric Street Science (all ready using it...step off), and education. You could not poison the community because we were not just some people that bought similar real estate, we were FAMILY. And no one knows all your business like family. We know Fran is "going through some things" and she may want to escape through aid of some narcotic, so when we see her talking to the pusher man we rush in to save her from herself. THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN ANYMORE. We are all too busy pretending to be record company CEO's, and Bosses, and "we buy used house" moguls. Couple that with the fact that this is (though criminally proficient) the age of soft men. Sure were still violent, but it's because you hurt their "feelings" or made them feel "insecure", or not so fresh, or whatever yall nigga's say these days. Point being, the vast majority of yall are afraid of 13-19yr olds, and that's some real bitchassness. GO OUTSIDE AND STOP THEM.
Yes, he may, and probably should fight back. After all, you're a family man, a cross dresser, and a hater who does not want to see him shine. He may get a gun, I would advise you do the same. Why are we afraid to die, but content to live in fear? Are you really going to look your wife and kids in the face and say you're scared to tell a nigga born in 1992 to move off your fucking car and take his jums up the block? You are the ultimate homo if that's the case.
I say you get 30 or so neighbors who feel likewise and are armed to go outside and sit down where the hustling is going on. I mean after all its crime people. The folks doing it do not want to get caught, so a large crowd is not shall we say "good for business"…………so make it hot.
I suppose some of this may sound like snitching to the uninformed & uncivilized so let me address that while we are on our way to church (as the kids say).
I do not encourage police involvement, which would defeat the purpose of what we are doing here. WE ARE TAKING BACK WHERE WE LIVE. Why get the cops involved? That's like crying to your Uncle (Sam) that the big bad dope boy (who was born after the creation of clear Pepsi) is scaring you. You don't need cops to stop drug dealers, just a strong civilian presence. The cops should only be called after the melee is over. After all, if all the neighbors are in on it WHO IS CALLING THE COPS?
The drug dealers……….NO. So have fun whooping ass until all they can do is take it up the street.
Let em do it for 2 weeks and then talk to the folks up the street and hit em again. Fuck that yall, if you're too ascared to handle the responsibilities of your residence don't complain about the kids doing dirt, and complicated hand shakes on your front steps. Action and personal responsibility is what kept our streets safe and our kids un-knapped or molested. So put yourself on the line, or sooner or later they will put a line around your self (patent pending).

And As Always

You may fire when ready

This is not the 50's people, so if you have got a chick
that your supposedly in all types of Lifetime Channel
love with, than your probably not going to want to slam
the ham with some random broad। I personally don't
care what y'all niggas do. Cheating "in the words of
B.Shaw" makes relationships better. Think about it, you
cheat (if you love the chick) you feel like a piece of
philandering shit, so you go buy flowers, spend time,
and put some effort back into putting her down for the
count (that way she is not staring at you all mad, while
you watch sports center). However there are other
people that want to cheat, and then go be a dickface to
your significant other, well because your scum..... you
should burn in hell. And you will burn inside when your
fucked up treatment forces your woman/man/pet to go
get their June bug out with some random person,
subsequently bringing you home a disease.

A man should only have one woman, unless that man is
African, or Muslim or really fucking cool, like Rick
Flare. Juggling a multitude of poontang is a fine art, like
painting, or stealing, and should only be done my
someone with the stones to do it right. None of that
condom wrapper under the bed shit. NEVER subject
yourself to the torture of a bad relationship with
ANYONE. If your everyday protocol, somehow involves
you sticking your joebar into some different puss, or
vice versa for you ladies then you have some real
relationship problems you should work out...OR END IT
LIKE A GROWN UP. For all my hatred and animosity, I
am reluctant to hurt the few women who are willing to
put up with my shit. Cheating is a release and nothing
more. A good relationship/marriage/fuck buddy, has a
lot of tension and buildup that can wreak havoc on you
over the long haul. So if you MUST CHEAT, then cheat
to blow off steam and GO HOME. Go on the net, find a
hooker for a reasonable price, pay her to leave and wash
your balls. Don't cheat for attention, or for the person
that will finally do you right. Eventually some shit kicker
will find your happy button, and you will be hooked.
You will fuck up your love shit for some sex shit and be
the most unhappy person, who cant stop smiling. Seven
times out of ten, the guy you meet in Walmart by the
socks & draws, can knock the bottom out of you better
then your man. However he is also more likely to black
your eye when you say that slick shit your husband gives
you a pass on because he knows your stupid and
irrational. This goes double for you fellas. The girl you
met at the Orange Julius, will give you a better work
over, but she will also; key your car, call your chick,
show up to your job/ house, and have her cousin Ray
Ray & Dem, teach you a lesson after you tell her to kick
rocks, or (worst of all, talk to you during Sports Center).
Cheating with some chick/dude that your going to get all
mushy in the face with is a huge complication that
should be avoided like stink people in the rain. It is
WRONG to have an affair (that involves feelings), but
getting out your sexual tension on some consistent
contestant, is not only a good idea, but (depending on
how fucked up you are) a key component to a happy
healthy relationship.

85% of yall will get caught, or even worse caught up,
and be subjected to the full wrath of some jilted lover.

Pay it forward bitches.

People don’t want “smart” music, they want pushbutton gratification. Not to mention it is 2008, and the 1980+ crack babies are now in their 20’s and running around. Sadly, people strive to cater to them, with statements like “I make music for my street peoples and hustlers because that’s what I am”. Do they really need their own music? By that same mentality, I make music for retarded kids to nod their helmets to (no homo). I make music for junkies to get high and rape little girls to…. is that also ok? Well obviously it is, if it was a problem widely glamorized and made almost so common it is the general consensus. How about if he had an iced out needle to stab him self with……ah, ah, eh, C’mon? More black men are in prison than in school, and more of us will die an unnatural death due to the high risks of living in impoverished communities. In fact so devastating the problem that by my own calculations, one in five have already stopped reading this post because it has “too many big words”. Sad but true.

“Well what am I suppose to rap about, happy shit?”,
Well no, but if you are a rap artist……. where’s the art? What is poetic about ABC lyrics, a catchy hook, repetitive beat, and a bunch of video bitches pretending to be interested in you, whilst you rock fake jewels, and stand in front of tangibles you don’t, and probably cant afford (cars, boats, houses)? A good friend of mine told me recently that my music needed to take a turn towards Dumbadown Blvd. When asked why, he informed me that though lyrically proficient, “some people don’t want to hear tricks on the mic, some people just want to hear the truth”. Profound as that is, there still MUST be some sort of bare minimum standards that we impose upon people who we pay to entertain US. How scared are we of drug dealers who are so good at selling drugs that they broadcast the size of shipments, locations of spots, names of competition, and the amounts of money being made that puts them SOOOO in the black, that they only rap as a hobby, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT DOWNLOAD IT because your taking money out of their pockets and food from their children.

No… I, as well as WE don’t believe you. It has been said before, and I will reiterate, if “I” was “YOUR” connect, “I” would have “YOU” bodied. I am sure the imaginary man that gives you the drugs you don’t sell has already given you a pass on this issue, but the person that your character is based on would probably go missing after his first 8 bars. Why push the negative? Why reinforce the stereotypes that you yourself don’t even live up to. Mid 80’s to early 90’s we hit a plateau. We will not get any worse than that, because THEY (who control our shipments) wont let us get it; that cheap, quick, pure, or profitable EVER AGAIN. That was it… sorry if you missed it. You are probably not going to make an easy million selling heroin on your corner. You WILL catch cases, and they WILL lock you up, with all the other brothers that tried, and a few brothers that didn’t try, but they put them in there anyway. Do you know what the ratio is for black men in the prison system….. FORGET WHAT IT IS, you know its high right? Of course you do, so why would you do these kids the disservice making it seem cool? What goes on in the street that is so important that you INSIST UPON telling them, that they cant see on TV, or hear from someone else’s hot crack piff? You kept it gully? You shot a bunch of people? You been locked up a few times? Was any of that worthy of a video with a 3mm budget? Does your lack of proper vocabulary, and common sense WARN, a child, or ENCOURAGE them to follow you into damnation? Modern day minstrel sirens. That’s what they are. they stand on a rock and sing catchy nigger jingles to lure the ships of young minds into disaster. Some things (believe it or not) you just shouldn’t see or hear about.

My friends BRAG to each other about who’s son is more of a square. Think about that. His son does not know why you need a gun, so when he grows up, he wont need one. His son does not know why you need cracks in your sock, and packs on your block, so when he grows up he wont either. Truth be told, his son might be the lawyer that helps your son beat his case. The case he wouldn’t have caught if he wasn’t trying to be like you. When your son gets tried as an adult, at the tender age of 17, and is being used like a party favor on some desolate tier somewhere HE WILL REGRET knowing you, and not knowing his son. I understand we are not all living like the Cosby show, but we are definitely not all living like The Wire. A lot of what happens on BOTH those shows is no longer reality. We had better attendance and graduation rates at HBCU’s and most of those menacing projects and characters don’t exist anymore (at least not at the same level as depicted).

Why is it cool to raise that hammer eye level and wild west a cat that got fresh at the mouth with you? Why is it wrong for someone who saw you do that senseless shit make sure you pay for it?

Don’t know the answer yet? Now why is your family all crying on the 10pm news on a blood stained street corner pleading for justice because some obscure cousin of the dude you shot, popped up on you and let out a hail of bullets killing you and your 3 month old sitting in the backseat. WHY IS THAT OKAY? Why is it only cool, when it doesn’t happen to you?

How about my man (and please forgive me for using you as an example for a second here brother) Young Sleezy shoots your mom in the face with a shotgun on her birthday? WAIT HOLD YOUR OUTRAGE FOR A SEC…
The cops catch him (again YS, just an example), and he goes to jail. I understand that’s your mom and all that jazz, but that’s my NIGGA RIGHT THERE. Now I get everybody to wear FREE YOUNG SLEEZY t-shirts and put banners up, and Myspace bulletins, and have all kinds of Sleezy awareness rallies. How mad are you going to be? Well it happens children. A lot of you take this rap thing a little too far. If ANY OF YOU, are as tough as you say you are, and killing a nigga is your morning cup of coffee, well LET ME INFORM YOU that you are living in the wrong country. Try the Sudan, or Jamaica, or Kenya, or the Congo. Try a country were bodies are dropping faster than the keys as I push them. Then you would get to keep it gully and street, and “do you” without all types of police, and judges, and snitches harassing you and fucking up your “grind”.

Where are YOUR balls (no broke back)? What makes you SO HOOD, that you cut, shoot, and poison your neighbors? And SO GANGSTA and REAL, that you can make a recorded account detailing all of your crimes with measurements and locations. And me SO DUMB as to pay you money for this criminal transcript, or audio indictment, as to make you SO RICH, that you don’t have to do any of that stuff anymore, but you will continue to talk about it because obviously I must like hearing it, and its good to remind the people that ARE still doing it that you were a fucked up person at one point in time as well?

Yeah……….. digest that for a second.

What is the logical reason for that?
Your not that bright, and your a vain self interested person, who would sooner burn the community to the fucking ground before someone else made the dollars off of it. I do not speak for the masses, but WE DONT NEED YOU. The most honorable death you should be provided with is being forced to live it like you rap it.
We shouldn’t support shit artists, who rap about lies. We shouldn’t support shit music, which follows in the grand scheme of Willy Lynch, and leads our children astray. We shouldn’t support money hungry corporations that wish nothing more than to force feed our kids E pills, cheap liquor, big dreams, and the ideas that bad credit, poor grammar, and a hot 16 bars will make them successful in America.

As always
Reap The Consequences

Requiescat In Pace?

Okay, I'm I left my coffee maker running.

Now, the topic being DEATH, and how we relate to it (as per the title). Tempted to ask how it relates to us? Well children the answer is DAILY. Everyday we wake up, we are dying a little. Moving a little slower, pain lasting longer, taking more time to heal. This is FACT; we are dying take your life with some seriousness. Now since this is all common knowledge, why do we glorify killing and murder? Here is my thing, because I am guilty of this myself....... the "I'm gonna clap ya, and wet ya, and hit ya with da shoddy"........ Really ..........are you really going to shoot me for thinking I can rap better than you? You're a killer eh? So why do we get all sad when we see death. I will do my best to break this down into the above focal points (leaving room for my usual tangents).
This is the part where I really had to make sure I did not come off sounding like C. DeLores Tucker or Sharpton or some shit. Why the need for the Murda Death Kill in the first place? Again, I am well aware that I am guilty of this and if you go to my page you will probably hear something to that effect (even though the dosage is small). However why do we feel the need to express hatred, as though it's going to make us likable? WHY DO WE KILL, or at the current status quo pretend to kill, or threaten to kill? Because your from the hood, because your gangsta? Everyone who lives in a "bad" neighborhood is not automatically a "bad" person, and gangsters would not shout a laundry list of crimes they committed into a microphone. Being a GOON, PIMP, HUSTLER, and GANGSTER are not good things. I don't do business with "hustlers" because they are not trustworthy and will probably try to steal. I don't let "pimps" around my family and friends because they are users, and manipulators. Gangsters in the truest sense of the word are not independent thinkers thus they are always caught up on some "group think". But more so than the rest "goons" are just fucking dumb. "I rolls around with the goons" well you know what Jack, you are a fucking goon. Show me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you be. So if you're constantly around low lives and criminals then you're probably scum in one shape or another. Think about it before you get all sensitive. If you see me…..right, and I am always around heroin addicts, and I dress like them, and relate to them, and "they are my people"……right. And one day you try to sell me some heroin, can I really be mad at you? DON'T FUCKING JUDGE ME YOU DON'T FUCKING KNOW MY LIFE NIGGA…………c'mon B. Give me a fucking break. I couldn't be mad at you, the same as a college kid who has a lot going for him, which dresses, talks, acts, and is constantly in the company of savages can't be mad at one of you for punching him in his face for cracking wise with you. HE MISREPRESENTED HIMSELF and a lot of you are doing the same. You might as well walk around with a stethoscope and some scrubs on. "I aint no doctor, don't judge me", riiiiight. Don't get me wrong beloveds. If you have got to do what you have got to do to survive than SERVIVE PEOPLE. I know that the rules are set in opposition to us. I know the teachers did not try to hard to reach us. I know ……TRUST ME. But at the same time, you know now too. So if you have been blindfolded, and I have been giving you piss to drink telling you its water……..THE BLIND FOLD IS OFF NOW…….put down the urine. We know its rough, but don't fuck up your own people……..that's just selfish. If you are REALLY a gangster……like a real one, then I have a request. DON'T PAY YOUR RENT. Try that shit. Don't pay your rent, because that shit is "extortion, and you don't play that". And when the sheriff comes to put your shit on the street, SHOW HIM YOU ARE A CERTIFIED G. You're a killer? Well then don't pay your gas and electric bill. Now when that utility man comes to clip your shit, HIT HIM with the Hecker & Koch. You're a pimp eh? Well my permed up pal, why don't you march your pimping ass down to the capital building and tell those fucks you're not paying taxes anymore, and you're tired of "hoing" for the US Govt. Then when they put you on trial for tax evasion, you show that judge what happens when you cross a real playa. Anything short of that and yall are nothing but posturing vaginas in funny clothing. Now I already warned you that I was going to get side tracked so let's go back to the main road now. All this death talk comes from the people who are most afraid to die. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6……..really, well consider my direction the polar opposite. I would rather die than live on my knees. Would you really rather live as a slave than die as a man. Well bookings is the new slave ship, and they are catching free men left right and center. But you would sooner kill your brother than the man holding the whip. I know I am being kind of a dick here, but think about it for a second. None of us are REALLY suicidal......right? Subconsciously we are self destructive at best, (smoking, drinking, and eating meat) but this is a bit of a different bag. Killers, as in people who kill other human beings for money do not make a big deal out of it (death). Its one of those strange universal constants. Kind of like how rich people don't talk about money. Contract players, are discreet, usually have jobs, and are seemingly quiet and mild mannered people. That's why they are not in jail. Thus if you are a rapper that cant go 16 bars without catching some sort of imaginary body, than we all know your really a fucking liar PERIOD. So quick to murder, and assault, and yes even RAPE in a rap song, but in real life they are not even comfortable in the same room with a corpse. I have a friend that works in the morgue and she tells me about all you "D-Boys" who can't even look at a dead body. Why promote death if you're not comfortable with it? Do you think if people are convinced that you will kick in the door waving the 44 they will buy your record? How many records do you buy based solely off the artist's criminal docket? This is obviously directed at rappers and so called musicians, because they are the biggest culprits. The funny part is these are the same people who will be on the news crying into the camera and begging for justice when they loose someone close to them. In the last eight months I have lost six people I consider friends or family members. Chances are, most of us have lost people that are close to us (it's been a bad year yall). Some of it was senseless, and some of it accidental, but NONE OF IT WAS COOL. No one wants to hear a rap song from the person that murdered their peoples. No one wants to hear ill words spoken of their dead. How can anyone rap about shooting people and be even the least bit surprised when someone you know gets shot? Are we that self interested? Are people only people when you know them? My point in all of this being, if you're a rapper who "wont hesitate to kill" and "venerates the steel" don't be surprised when you find yourselves "featherweight 4 real" floating into the hear after. We have got to take some responsibility for the words we use, and the message we portray. If killing is cool, then death is cool. Unless you are of some strange new religion that I am not familiar with, where the nigga you shot and your dead aunt Gertrude go to two different places because you get to choose YOU'RE A HIPOCRITE. No disrespect to anyone who has and Aunt Gertrude. Remember one thing………. If you take a life, it's not just the person. It's anyone they would have fathered, children's children, and so on. Any one they would have inspired or touched. That person could have said some quick shit in passing to kid on a bus that turned out to be the next president. I know it's far fetched, but that's how I look at things. So either I am a hippy and a flower child, or your just an unenlightened schmuck. Take your pick………but I work in finance, and vote republican (RON PEEZY) so there aint a lot of unwashed poncho's and homegrown over here.

Death is promised for all of us. Look at that like daily motivation to live righteous and in tune with your deity (whichever one you like). So I truly hope that the friends I have lost in the last few months are resting in piece, because half of them did not live in it. As much as I miss my friends and mourn for their loss, I am not swayed to forget why 3 of them died……..their choices. We choose the paths we walk, and the devil aint just a liar……..he is also a really convincing salesman. Certain paths come with hard work, and pay off much later. Others pay off now but are fraught with such danger. Wrong road and your close friends will look like they strangers But if God is your guide in the jungle you won't stumble………just be patient RIP to all those lost recently, and a special shout to everybody who lost em.

And just as important……….what do YOU THINK?
